Samples of Students' Formal Reflections
"While working on this public education research paper, I discovered how complex education is today. Education seems to be a simple topic at first, with readily available information, but after much research, it turns out that there are no clear answers. At the beginning of the project, I expected to be able to answer my group’s research question easily after I had done thorough research. However, the answer was not black and white."

"The information itself, I would say, is more groundbreaking than the project. Not often does a student get the chance to dig into the educational system in which he or she is placed." |
"Though understanding our topic came relatively easy, actually writing the paper proved to be quite difficult. Understanding the actual goal of the assignment was confusing in the beginning because of vague directions. Compiling evidence and sources was also hard, especially since instructions on what types of sources that were required and if they needed to be submitted were vague as well. "

"While I knew that dropout rate was a major issue in Philadelphia, I had no idea how serious of a crisis it has become. I am glad that I got to research this topic, though, because I think the only possible way this issue can be solved is if people are aware of the statistics. Looking at the neighborhood schools and their dropout rates was eye opening for me. It made me upset for the other kids that are not getting adequate support by their families and teachers, but it also it made me grateful for the support I have." |
"I personally really loved this project. I think we had a really interesting topic that looked at not just education at our level but education at an earlier level. I really love kids so even reading about kids was an enjoyable experience for me. I expected to learn a lot about the correlation in early childhood vs. later education."
